1855 $20 MS60 NGC.
1855 $20 MS60 NGC.<p>The 1855 begins a five-year run of underrated, overlooked Double Eagles from the Philadelphia Mint. This is the eighth rarest of 17 Type One issues from this mint. Approximately 100-150 pieces are known in the various About Uncirculated grades with most in the AU50-55 range. Solid AU58s are very scarce and Uncirculated pieces are quite rare with just 13 to 16 pieces believed extant today. As with most examples of this date, the presently offered NGC MS60 has noticeably abraded surfaces. The Bass collection contained two PCGS MS61 1855 Double Eagles, and a nice, original Uncirculated example brought $11,500 in the October 2001 Dallas Bank Collection auction. The luster is a bit thin but complete on this rich green-gold example. The devices are sharply struck throughout with only the smallest abrasions present. The only mentionable surface flaw is a horizontal grease stain (as struck) in the center of the reverse. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium.
