Half Dollars 1854-o Arrows. NGC graded Mint State 65. <b>Those who would like to own one of these handsome "Arrows" pieces, and would prefer something from a branch mint, should seriously consider this boldly struck, majestically toned 1854-O. It's color resonates with iridescence, blues, reds and golds, some magenta to purple, and all on a smooth antique silver base. As the grade makes plain, the surfaces are in pristine gem state of preservation, fully frosty, free from all but a random bagmark or two. The plain fact is, beneath the warm blend of colors the luster shines with incredible freshness and originality. Explaining the change that occurred in 1854, the Breen encyclopedia writes: "The incoming Mint Director, Col. James Ross Snowden, ordered that henceforth quarters and half dollars should be issued without rays around eagle, though continuing to show arrows at dates. His reasons are likely to have included saving additional cost and time in die sinking, and increasing die life, which had sunk to about 1/3 of its usual level on coins with rays."</b> <p align="center">Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
