1854-O 50C Arrows MS65 PCGS. Despite the large mintage
1854-O 50C Arrows MS65 PCGS. Ex: Pryor. Despite the large mintage exceeding 5 million pieces, this is a coin that should be trebly popular, as a representative of the Arrows coinage, as an antebellum O-mint coin, and as an affordable Gem type. While this Seated half issue is frequently found in circulated grades, it is much less so in MS65 grade, where PCGS and NGC combined have certified only about two dozen pieces (3/07). The dies for this coin attest to long use, as several small die cracks appear on each side, along with what must surely be a near-terminal reverse crack that runs from the right (facing) wingtip to the M in AMERICA and to the rim. The coin is nonetheless well struck, with even, light russet toning over each side and strong underlying mint frost.
Ex: Stack's (3/1979), lot 1926; James Bennett Pryor Collection (Bowers and Merena, 1/96), lot 147.
From The Palakika Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
