<B>1854-O $3 AU55 NGC.</B></I> The only New Orleans issue in the series, and very elusive in Choice AU condition. The original mintage was 24,000 pieces, and the current combined population data from NGC and PCGS shows that approximately 900 examples have been encapsulated, with around 650 of those coins grading below AU55 (8/06). This is a muted green-gold coin that has just a hint of reddish patina over each side. A problem-free example, the diagnostic die crack through the mintmark is bold and extends all the way to the rim, terminating at the denticles near 5 o'clock. A shallow planchet streak (as struck) extends from between TA in STATES to the edge of Liberty's crown. Traces of highpoint wear are noted on both sides, and much of the original mint luster remains evident.
