<B>1854-O<$3> AU50 PCGS.</B></I> Breen-6349. The 1854 coinage is a one-year subtype--although sometimes unrecognized as such--since the denominational DOLLAR is in much smaller lettering than on later issues in the series. The 1854-O has a further distinction of being the only New Orleans Mint issue in the series. This example offers light field chatter over the lustrous and appealing orange-gold surfaces. The 85 in the date is weakly struck, as often seen, but the O mintmark is bold. Die lapping has erased parts of the right ribbon, the bowknot, and the leaf left of the date.
