<B>1854-O<$3> AU50 NGC.</B></I> The first-year 1854-O (24,000 pieces produced) is the only three dollar gold issue delivered in the New Orleans Mint. As a result, it shares a one-year type status with the 1854-D. There the similarly ends, however, as the '54-D is considerably more difficult to locate in all grades. On the other hand, the '54-O is a condition rarity in its own right at or above the AU50 grade level. The strike on the typical 1854 New Orleans three is below average with noticeable areas of weakness. This is just such a coin, although we stress that there is only minimal wear confined to the highpoints. The green-gold surfaces are moderately abraded with a planchet depression (as produced) in the reverse field at the back of the 3 in the denomination.<BR><I>From The Tide Collection.</B></I>
