1854 N-25 R3
1854 N-25 R3. MS-64. Choice lustrous light chocolate and olive brown with bluish steel overtones. A third of the obverse shows underlying faded mint color while only 5% of the mint color remains visible on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and the attractive mint frost covers even the highest points of the design. This cent offers outstanding eye appeal, very close to gem. Finding an identifying mark presents a challenge, even with a strong glass. A microscopic planchet chip in the dentils over the D in UNITED is the best candidate for this purpose. M-LDS, die state b. Both sides show die clashmarks, strongest at the chin. A beautiful cent, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
