Lustrous mint red fading to light olive and bluish steel on the devices. Half the mint red remains on this very attractive cent, and there are no significant marks. A small spot of darker toning at the dentil tips right of star 11 and a spot of darker toning at the right top of the N in CENT can help identify this piece. LDS, die state c. The legend outside the wreath is sinking, strongest at the top of the reverse, and the earlier die lines at ITED are gone. Nicely struck, which is quite unusual for this variety. The coronet tip is strong and nearly all the stars have their radial lines intact. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64, and tied for CC#2 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution and Naftzger Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2, none finer in RB.Earliest source uncertain, possibly Dr. French. This cent comes with a pillbox marked "1854 A-2" tucked inside an undated auction envelope from Abe Kosoff (lot #411) and WCB (Willard C. Blaisdell) is marked on the envelope-R. E. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
