1854 N-10 R2+ NGC graded MS66 Red & Brown.
1854 N-10 R2+ NGC graded MS66 Red & Brown. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. Very attractive mint red fading to bluish steel brown with two-thirds of the mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. This cent is a sharply struck gem except for a dull, very shallow nick in the hair between stars 7 & 8 and a faint spot of darker toning in the field left of star 11. Rare EDS, die state b, with a faint die crack from the dentils through the C in AMERICA and the wreath to the feet of NT in CENT. The obverse is uncracked. The fields offer a hint of reflectivity and the devices are frosty creating a very subtle cameo effect that adds to the outstanding eye appeal. It should be noted that an earlier state with an uncracked reverse is unknown and may not exist (die state a). Our grade is MS64, CC#5 in the Grellman census for the variety but finest of the early die state. And it comes with a nice provenance. NGC population 10; none finer.
Estimated Value $750 - 1.
