<B>1854 $1 Large Eagle Octagonal 1 Dollar, BG-504, Low R.5, AU58 NGC.</B></I> This is among the most famous varieties within the California Small Denomination Gold series. BG-504 is the sole variety featured on the cover of the second edition of the standard Breen-Gillio reference. Although any Period One octagonal dollar variety is popular, BG-504 is particularly so since it copies the eagle and shield motif from the Humbert fifty dollar slugs of the era. A well struck and dusky olive-gold piece, smooth aside from minor granularity on the upper left obverse field.
