<B>1854 G$1 Type Two MS64 NGC.</B></I> The Type Two gold dollar bears the Indian Head motif, similar to that of the three dollar piece. Its origin apparently stems from the thinking of mint officials that the preceding gold dollar (Type One Liberty Head) was too thick and small. The Type Two was made broader and thinner.<BR> This near-Gem specimen displays rich apricot-gold patination imbued with tints of mint-green. Swirling luster emanates from both sides, imparting to each a high level of eye appeal. A well executed strike leaves sharply defined design features, save for the usual softness in the 8 of the date and the two L's in DOLLAR.
