1854 G$1 Type Two MS63 PCGS. Because the Small Indian head design was only minted from 1854 to 1856, it is considered an important type issue, resulting in heightened demand. The Philadelphia Mint coined about 1.5 million of these coins in 1854 and 1855, a substantial decrease from earlier years. From 1849 through 1853, the average annual production in Philadelphia was about 2 million gold dollars per year.
Frosty surfaces and highly lustrous yellow-gold are evident on both sides of this lovely Mint State piece. Hints of pale orange and wispy blue toning are visible on both sides. The strike is sharp, and nearly full at the centers, atypical for the design.

Coin Engraver: James B.
