1854 Issued by Frontier, Deviercy Co., successor to Joseph Brothers’ coining business in 1853. Large broad Liberty head, 13 small stars around, FD almost touches last two; wreath with 5 pairs of berries on each branch, 1 (over) 2 (over) DOLLAR and date within. Extremely Rare: just 9 specimens recorded in Breen-Gillio, one of which is plugged (a 10th example, holed in two places, was sold on eBay in 2003). Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, toned; attractive reddish and bluish toning at upper reverse. PCGS MS63. Ex Heritage ANA Detroit 8/2/1994, Lot 7973. The Roe specimen was MS64, and at the time was the only one graded as such. Totheroh's notes reflect some coins submitted to PCGS four or more times during the gradeflation period.
