1854-D $5 Large D MS63 PCGS. Variety 31-X. The 1854-D is one of the more available half eagles from the Dahlonega mint. The mintage was 56,143 pieces and it is estimated that 225-250 coins are extant today in all grades. However, even this issue is seldom encountered in Choice Mint State grade. The surfaces have frosty and fully brilliant yellow-gold luster with minimal marks on either side. Although it is not fully struck, most of the design features are sharper than usual. The curls just below the coronet are a trifle weak, as are the lower parts of the reverse, including the eagle's claws and the arrow feather above. A fine die crack crosses the right reverse field from the wing to IC of AMERICA.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
