<B>1854-D $3 --Obverse Repaired, Improperly Cleaned--NCS. XF Details.</B></I> Variety 1-A. Just one die pair was used to strike 1,120 three dollar gold pieces in Dahlonega during the year, and this is the only mintage of the denomination at that facility. This is a light yellow-gold example with good eye appeal despite extensive smoothing of the obverse fields and hairlines. Representatives of this issue are in demand in all grades and are rarely seen. When encountered, most coins are VF at best. All 1854-D threes have irregularity on the rims, especially on the obverse.
