1854-D $3 AU53 PCGS. Winter 1-A. The 1854-D is the only Dahlonega issue in the challenging Three Dollar Gold series, which when combined with the issue's absolute rarity makes it one of the most prized issues among all branch mint gold coins. Only 1,120 pieces were struck, and today probably fewer than 100 pieces are extant in all grades, most of which are either damaged to some degree or in the VF-XF grade ranges. This piece has modest wear on the highpoints and is typically softly struck, with delicate orange peripheral accents over subdued olive-gold surfaces. The nearly diagnostic die clash mark located in front of Liberty's neck is visible, but very light. From the Ashland City Collection.
