1854-D $2 1/2 AU53 PCGS. Variety 17-M, the only known dies for this date. A satiny light yellow-gold example that exhibits hints of green, with sharp obverse and reverse design motifs that show only the slightest weakness along the eagle's left leg and along portions of the border, but the denticles are all visible. Raised die lines from below the date to star 1 are present on all known examples of this issue. A mere 1,760 pieces were coined, and survivors are elusive in all grades. Doug Winter notes: "Any 1854-D quarter eagle which grades higher than AU50 is extremely rare." Population: 1 in 53, 12 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
