<B>1854-C $5 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 22-I. This is a much scarcer date than expected, with a relatively higher mintage of 39,200 pieces. Although the Charlotte mintmark is faint, it is fully outlined. The mintmark was evenly but lightly impressed into the die, and all C-mint half eagles struck from this reverse die have this feature. The present piece has a reasonable strike considering the mint of origin. The fields are impressively void of marks, although a few shallow mint-made strike-throughs are present.
