<B>1854-C $2 1/2 MS61 NGC.</B></I> Variety 15-I. This date is considered scarce and the present piece survives from a mintage of just 7,295. Only about 75 to 100 of those pieces are known today, mostly in circulated grades from Fine to AU. Mint State pieces are rare, regardless of the numerical level. This example has brilliant yellow-gold color with a touch of green, and satiny luster providing slightly prooflike fields. Typical of nearly all known examples with design weakness at the centers, especially on the lower parts of the eagle.
