1854-C $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. The 1854-C (7,295 pieces produced) is the eighth rarest Quarter Eagle produced in the Charlotte Mint. It shares this distinction with the 1844-C and 1856-C, all of which are rarer than such 1850s C-mint issues as the 1850-C, 1851-C, and 1858-C. One of perhaps 14-16 1854-C Two-and-a-Halves believed extant, this orange-gold representative reveals modest, yet visually pleasing brightness in the fields. There are scattered abrasions from light circulation, but few are individually distracting. Typically struck for the date with softness of detail over the central highpoints. We have sold three other AU58 1854-C Quarter Eagles over the last ten years: 1. Ex: Anaheim ANA Signature Sale (Heritage, 8/1995), lot 7635, where it realized $7,260. The coin was certified by NGC. 2. Ex: FUN Signature Sale (Heritage, 1/1999), lot 7876, where it realized $10,925. A PCGS-certified example. 3. Ex: Santa Clara Signature Sale--The Ric Leichtung Collection (Heritage, 11/2001), lot 6282, where it realized $9775. Also an NGC coin. The present example is identifiable by an obverse pinscratch in the field before Liberty's eye. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
