1854<$5> MS62 NGC. Because of the lower mintage than other so-called "common" P-mint half eagles of the 1850s, the 1854 is scarce in all grades, and Gem pieces are nonexistent. This specimen offers lovely brownish-gold surfaces with good luster and a bold strike. The few light abrasions noted under a loupe are consistent with the MS62 grade. The 4 in the date nearly touches the five. Census: 19 in 62, 15 finer (9/06).
