1854 3CS PR64 PCGS. The Type Two Trime was first struck on May 22, 1854. Small alterations were made to differentiate this type from the earlier 75% silver alloy pieces of 1851-53. It is not known how many proofs were struck of this date but very few are known today (estimates range between 12 and 20 pieces), indicating a low original mintage. Two varieties are known for this date, one with a repunched 5 in the date, and the second with die lines (as minted) above TED in UNITED. This piece is from that second set of dies. Fully struck in all areas, as normally only seen on proofs, each side has bright rose colored toning with deep blue peripheral color around the obverse. Very rare, we have offered only five other examples at public auction over the past ten years. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
