1854 $3 MS62 PCGS. A lustrous beauty with orange-red borders and olive-green fields. The strike is sharp aside from the 8 in the date and the left border of Liberty's hair. Careful study will locate a few stray, minor marks, mostly near Liberty's neck. The first-year 1854 has the highest mintage of the series, but is significantly scarcer in Mint State than the 1878. Purchased in the 1930's at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive. Kraft envelope with notations "1854 Gold $3.00 Ex. fine" accompanies lot.
From The Stecher Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
