1854 10C Arrows MS67 PCGS. In an effort to replace the millions of Dimes that the California Gold Rush had driven out of circulation and into the melter, the Philadelphia Mint inaugurated a program of increased production in 1853 that would continue through 1857. The Seated Dimes produced in 1853 (most of them), 1854, and 1855 carried arrows on the obverse--a feature that signified the weight reduction as specified in the Mint Act of February 21, 1853. Survivors of all three of these P-mint Arrows deliveries are among the most plentiful in the entire Seated Dime series, at least in worn and low Mint State grades. In MS67, NGC and PCGS combined report only one 1854 Arrows Dime (10/02): the lovely golden tinged example that we are offering in this lot. The luster is complete over both sides with a moderately frosted texture. Every device is fully struck, and the only worthwhile pedigree marker (indeed, the only abrasion that we can find) is a tiny obverse scrape on Liberty's torso. Spindly die cracks (as struck) encircle much of the obverse periphery, but we do not think that these features are sizeable or extensive enough to warrant a Greer-102 designation. A no-questions Superb Gem for the type collector who demand the utmost in technical quality and aesthetic appeal. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
