1854 $1 Gold Indian PCGS MS65
<Our item number 139363>1854 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded MS-65. A splendid gem specimen! Rich golden toning certainly adds to this coin's eye appeal. A spectacular gem example with lovely patina over the bursting luster and hints of shimmering iridescent toning. This lovely gem has sharp design features along with light clash marks as so often seen on the 1854 Type 2s. Clash marks were the result of the minting process and are a normal part of the numismatic allure of these rare early gold.

The Gold Dollar denomination was originally proposed in the 1790s but it wasn't until the discovery of the California gold fields in 1848-49 that Congress responded by authorizing this denomination. The first pieces of 1849-54 have a Liberty head crowned with a coronet. This was changed to a small Indian Head style partway into 1854, represented by the present outstanding Gem. A design by James Longacre, it lasted only a few years due to striking problems and issues for the most part went into cir culation. A top notch Gem MS65 Type 2, and seldom encountered in any Mint State grade making this a major rarity when of gem quality. In an old green label holder. Pop 51; 11 finer with 9 in 66, 2 in 67 (PCGS # 7531).
Estimated Value $32,000 - 34,000.

Our item number 139363
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
