1853 Issued by Frontier, Deviercy Co., successor to Joseph Brothers’ coining business in 1853. Similar small Liberty head, 10 stars around, amateurish reverse die with reversed "4" in fraction! Extremely Rare; 10 recorded specimens, probably some duplication, none reported since. Known to have actually been issued in 1853: two examples were recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Winfield Scott, which sailed December 1, 1853. Lovely, unimprovable Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. PCGS MS63. Tied for Finest Known. Ex Heritage FUN 1/6/1996, Lot 6984, ex William McNally (died 1995). The same grade as the Roe example. Only 4 public sales records, two of which may be the same coin. An exceptional rarity.
