As a result, dollars no longer circulated at par and fell into disuse. Nevertheless, the Mint continued to issue this large-sized silver coin and in 1853 46,110 pieces were produced. Today only 26 examples have been graded MS63 by PCGS with 10 finer (1/06). This is a well, but not fully struck coin whose lustrous surfaces are covered with deep, variegated gray, blue, and golden toning. Lightly abraded for the grade.
