1853-O 25C Arrows and Rays MS65 NGC. Well struck
1853-O<25C> Arrows and Rays MS65 NGC. Well struck with the exception of Liberty's front thigh, as is often seen on examples of this elusive New Orleans issue, with mottled russet-gold and steel-blue toning that gravitates to the borders. Close examination of the reverse shows a few peripheral die cracks and some die clashing about the eagle. The 1853-O Arrows and Rays Quarter is rare and very underrated in Mint State, being far more challenging than its mintage of more than 1.3 million pieces would suggest. It becomes extremely rare in Choice and better grades, and the only piece we have seen which graded higher than this is the fabulous Eliasberg: 1455 coin (sold by Bowers and Merena in April 1997 for $25,300) that was later graded MS 66 by NGC. Population: 1 in 65, 1 finer (5/05).
