1853 N-16 R1+ PCGS graded MS65 Red & BrownChoice lustrous mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints. Two-thirds of the mint color remains. The red is mellowed on the obverse, brighter on the reverse. The best identifying marks are a small, dull tick on the rim under the left side of the 1 and a speck at the lower point of star 12. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state a. The die clashmarks at the throat and over the O in ONE are visible but fading. Very sharply struck with fully defined radial lines in all the stars and a sharp point on the coronet. A very nice cent with outstanding eye appeal and an impressive provenance. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#1 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Naftzger Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.Certificate Number: 406016.65/18900532Pedigree: Ex Floyd T.
