1853 Known to have actually been issued in 1853, because one was recovered from the wreck of the sidewheel steamer S.S. Winfield Scott, which departed on its final voyage December 1, 1853. The first issue of this type is close to full weight, with an average of 0.71 g (should be 0.85 g at .880 fine). Similar obverse, but period within D, 8th star above bun and almost touches it; same reverse die. Another signed Deriberpie issue. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, golden Liberty head and stars highlighted by lovely ruby toning, reverse brilliant and frosty. PCGS MS63. Serial# 26703357 Totheroh Collection HKA#63577
