1853-D G$1 MS64 NGC.
1853-D G$1 MS64 NGC. Variety 5-G. Just a single die pair was used to produce the 6,583 D-mint Gold Dollars from this year. Mint-made defects such as planchet voids and cracks often plague survivors of this issue, and many show distracting incompleteness of strike. Only a small number of Mint State 1853-Ds, perhaps 10-12 pieces, are believed extant, most suffering the same deficiencies outlined above. The Choice example offered here represents exceptional quality for the issue, with the sort of strike not often associated with any Gold Dollar from the Dahlonega Mint. The strands of hair show individual definition while the stars have full radial lines and the wreath shows virtually complete detail. An appealing reddish patina is present on both sides and the only mentionable distraction is a hairline blemish down Liberty's neck. Easily Condition Census for the issue and desirable for both its remarkable condition as a Gold Dollar and as a top-of-the-line piece of Southern gold coinage. Population: 2 in 64, 1 finer (11/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
