<B>1853-C G$1 MS62 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 8-I. According to Garrett and Guth (2006): "The 1853-C gold dollars were very poorly produced."..."The central portions on the reverse near the date are nearly always obscured." This example would seem to be an exception to that observation, as there is <I>no</B></I> striking weakness noticeable on the reverse; nor on the obverse for that matter. The green-gold surfaces are satiny and abrasion-free, with a few minute hairlines in the fields that prevent a higher grade assessment.
