1853-C G$1 AU55 PCGS. Variety 8-I. Douglas Winter (1998) says this is the worst struck Type One Charlotte gold dollar. This AU55 specimen is certainly an exception to the rule. Its star centers are strong, as is Liberty's hair save for slight highpoint wear. A medley of apricot and yellow-gold, mint-green, and rose coloration bathes each side. A couple of small reverse marks do not detract.
From The Pearl E. Pemberton Collection.

Coin Engraver: James B.
