<B>1853-C $5 AU58 NGC.</B></I> Variety 20-H. The 1853-C is one of the more frequently encountered Charlotte half eagles. Estimates of the number of survivors are around 185-195 pieces in all grades. While all C-mint fives are scarce in AU in the absolute sense, the 1853 is one of the better preserved of the Charlotte fives with at least three dozen pieces believed known today. This piece has a significant presence of reddish patina, as well as generous amounts of mint luster, surrounding the devices.
