<B>1853 50C Peacock Reverse Octagonal 50 Cents, BG-302, Low R.4, MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Die State IV with a prominent cud at 3 o'clock. This die state is listed as "rare" in the second edition of Breen-Gillio, which adds "one of the most popular types in this series." The F.D. initials beneath the bun are short for the maker, Frontier, Deviercy & Co. Satiny and unabraded with green-gold color and well struck types. Jay Roe's example, graded MS63 PCGS, auctioned for $5,000 in 2003.
