1853<50C> Arrows and Rays MS64 PCGS. The arrows and ray signified that these silver coins conformed to the new reduced-weight standard, which would make their melting unprofitable since the silver content was again less than the face value. More than 3.5 million pieces of this issue were coined, but PCGS has graded only 20 examples finer than this piece (9/06). The reverse is brilliant with a light golden cast; the obverse has a mellow copper-colored hue. The piece is well struck, save for the right-side stars, and essentially abrasion-free.
