1853 1C Cent--Mis-Aligned Obverse Die--MS63 Brown PCGS. N-19. Strong repunching on the 3 in the date is the most readily evident diagnostic of this die marriage--a feature that is discernible to the naked eye and especially clear under a loupe. The reverse of this Cent is well centered on the planchet with bold, if not sharp definition over all features. The obverse die, on the other hand, was not aligned properly with the result that the impression is off center a few degrees to the left. There is an extra lip of flan along the right border on that side, and the crisp striking detail on Liberty's portrait gives way to softness on some of the peripheral stars. Both sides are richly toned in antique-gold and medium brown shades, there are some shallow planchet voids (as struck) in the center of the reverse around the denomination ONE CENT.
