1853 10C Arrows MS66 NGC. After the discovery of large amounts of gold in California, the price of silver rose in relation to gold to the point that silver coinage no longer circulated. The result was a Congressional act that slightly lowered the amount of silver in minor silver coins. To distinguish these pieces, Mint Director Eckert had arrowheads placed on each side of the date. These short-lived type coins have been eagerly sought after by collectors for generations. This is a splendid, high grade example that is sharply struck on each side. The satiny mint luster is nearly brilliant in the center of the obverse with rings of deep rose and sea-green at the margin. The reverse is mostly rose colored throughout. Census: 41 in 66, 12 finer (11/07).
From The Madison Collection.

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
