1853 10C Arrows MS66 NGC. After the weight of subsidia
1853<10C> Arrows MS66 NGC. After the weight of subsidiary silver coinage was reduced in February 1853, it was necessary to rapidly replenish the dwindling supply of old-tenor silver coins that were leaving circulation. More than 12 million dimes were struck. While that is a vast number, Gem and better examples are seldom seen, as most of the mintage entered circulation. This beautiful, snow-white example has soft, frosted surfaces and a couple of minor luster grazes in the right obverse field. A light obverse die crack passes from star 7 through the head and Liberty cap, and a second crack passes from the rim through the left arrow to the rock base. An outstanding example of this short-lived type coin. Census: 38 in 66, 9 finer (7/06).
