1852-O G$1 MS63 NGC. Normal Date. The '52-O is the rarest Type One Gold Dollar after the 1850-O. While Winter's 1992 estimate of 19-20 coins extant in Mint State is probably no longer accurate, there can be no doubt that the 1852-O remains a conditionally challenging issue with a rapidly dwindling certified population above the MS62 level. This is the most colorful of the three '52-O Dollars in this collection, the surfaces shimmering with rich reddish-gold hues. The devices are free of mentionable striking incompleteness, and there are relatively few distractions for the MS63 grade level. Accuracy, however, compels us to mention an obverse scrape in the field before Liberty's nose. Pleasingly vibrant luster enhances the eye appeal of this already attractive representative. A similarly graded example sold for $4,140 in our recent (4/2002) Central States Signature Sale. From the Ashland City Collection.
