1852-O 10C MS65 NGC. Using one obverse and two reverse dies, the New Orleans Mint delivered 430,000 Dimes in 1852. The present example was struck from the reverse die that displays a well centered O mintmark. Greer (1992) opines that the O-mint Dimes of the 1850-1852 era were not extensively melted like their P-mint counterparts. Rather, the author believes that these coins remained in circulation, which explains the rarity of high grade survivors in today's market. This Condition Census Gem is richly toned in steel-gray and antique-copper shades with a few isolated swirls of champagne, lilac, and cobalt-blue color scattered about. The strike is sufficiently sharp for a product of the Louisiana branch mint, and there are few distracting abrasions. One of only two Gems known to NGC, PCGS has not seen a single coin above the MS64 level (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
