1852 Moffat & Co. $10 Wide Date Ten Dollar VF35 P
1852 Moffat & Co.<$10> Wide Date Ten Dollar VF35 PCGS. K-9, R.6. The firm of Moffat & Co. was one of the earliest issuers of California gold coinage. Only one other firm, Norris Gregg and Norris, was producing gold coinage at the time. Moffat & Co. struck $10 coins in 1849 and 1852. The 1852 pieces come in Close Date and Wide Date varieties; these are of approximately equal rarity. Although this honey-gold example shows wear on the hair near the ear and on the eagle's right wing, the surfaces are quite smooth for the grade, aside from minor obverse rim blemishes at 3 and 9 o'clock.
