1852 G$1 MS65 PCGS. Although more than 2 million piece
1852<G$1> MS65 PCGS. Although more than 2 million pieces of this issue were coined, most apparently entered circulation in short order, as the population data confirm: Less than 0.1% of the total mintage has been certified by PCGS, even including circulated coins. There are few Gems available to satisfy current demand. The satiny, lemon-yellow surfaces on this example are extremely lustrous and devoid of mentionable contact, save for a single pinscratch faintly visible beneath the large 1 denomination. The 2 in the date is larger and punched more deeply into the die, evidence that a three-digit date logotype was used, with the fourth digit, signifying the current year, punched in later by hand. The reverse shows some old, faint clash marks, and small die cracks rise from several of the peripheral letters to the rim. The strike is enticingly full, and the obverse shows no mentionable distractions. Population: 32 in 65, 16 finer (6/06).
