1852-D $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Variety 15-M. The 1852-D has a minuscule mintage of 4,078 pieces. Not surprisingly, PCGS has certified only 62 pieces in all grades. Just eight pieces are certified by PCGS as Mint State. The present impressive example has radiant orange-gold toning, which is slightly deeper on the obverse than on the reverse. Thorough inspection beneath a loupe reveals a clean reverse, and the obverse has only a subtle graze on the cheekbone and a couple of wispy abrasions on the field before Liberty's nose. Although the Dahlonega Mint is known for indifferent strikes, this lovely piece is an exception, since the major devices and stars are well brought up. Only portions of the dentils are softly defined. Population: 4 in 62, 2 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
