1852-C G$1 MS64 NGC. Variety 7-H. The 18 in the date is lightly repunched south, and clash marks are noted near the coronet tip and the left wreath stem. Well struck for a Southern branch mint product, particularly on the curls near Liberty's ear. As seen on many gold dollars, the peripheries display cartwheel luster, while the open fields are moderately prooflike. Strike-throughs are noted beneath Liberty's chin and between the LA in DOLLAR, but the surfaces are remarkably void of contact. Although the Charlotte Mint struck 72,574 half eagles in 1852, their emission of gold dollars was substantially smaller. A mere 9,434 pieces were struck, and of that amount probably only 80-85 pieces are extant today in all grades. This is one of the finer examples known of this Type One Charlotte issue. Census: 6 in 64, 5 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
