1852-C $5 MS64 NGC.
1852-C $5 MS64 NGC. Variety 18-H. With a mintage of 72,574 pieces, the 1852-C is a relatively obtainable coin in circulated grades. A number of higher grade coins are known as well, but these are mostly limited to the small hoard of coins that came out of southern Indiana in the mid-1980s. Several MS64 coins are known and listed on the current Condition Census, but we have been unable to trace this particular piece. This is a particularly choice example that has bright green-gold coloration and sparkling semi-prooflike fields. The striking details are especially strong with bold definition on the peripheral stars, Liberty hair curls, and the eagle's left (facing) leg--the only striking softness is seen on the eagle's neck, which is seen on nearly all half eagles from the 1840s and 1850, regardless of mint. Lightly abraded in the fields, the only marks of any consequence that could be used for pedigree purposes are a couple of short, horizontal ticks by star 12. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
