1852 $5 MS64 NGC. Despite the generous mintage of 573,901 pieces, one of the highest for the No Motto type, the 1852 half eagle is surprisingly scarce in the better Mint State grades. Indeed, NGC and PCGS combined have certified fewer that 30 near-Gem examples, and a mere three pieces finer.
Bright yellow-gold surfaces possess dazzling luster, and an impressive strike leaves strong definition on the design elements, including virtual completeness on the star centers and Liberty's hair strands. A few light strike-throughs are visible at the margins. A handful of minute contacts preclude the MS65 grade. Census: 14 in 64, 3 finer (2/08).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
