1852 $20 MS62 NGC.<p>The 1852 Double Eagle is more obtainable in all grades than the 1851. In Uncirculated grades, it ranks 16th of the 17 Philadelphia Type One issues, trailing only the 1861. However, the 1852 is a far scarcer coin than the 1861 although it sells for only a small premium. In fact, a strong case can be made for calling the 1852 (and any non-1861 Type One Double Eagle for that matter) an extremely undervalued issue in MS62. Here is a date that typically sells for $4,000-5,000 when available but is a truly scarce "early date" in this grade. The issue is very rare and very expensive in MS63 or better, making a nice MS62 especially desirable. This piece is sharply struck throughout with especially pronounced detailing on Liberty's hair curls. The reddish tinted mint luster is fulsome, especially for the grade, with the only interruptions being numerous small abrasions that are scattered over each side.
