1852 $10 Assay Office Ten Dollar MS61 NGC. K-12a(2), R
1852 $10 Assay Office Ten Dollar MS61 NGC. K-12a(2), R.5. An attractive yellow-gold representative of this early U.S. Assay Office of Gold variety. The eagle's breast feathers are well defined, and luster dominates all legends and devices. A few moderate obverse marks emerge beneath a strong lens, characteristic of the MS61 grade. Most Assay Office gold coins are circulated or impaired. Mint State pieces are subject to formidable demand from Territorial specialists. K-12a(2) is the "Faint Beads" subvariety of K-12a. The reverse dentils or beads are indistinct, a feature presumably caused by die wear. Slender die cracks are present throughout the lower obverse border, and also across the left reverse legends.
