1852/1<$10> Humbert Ten Dollar--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. K-8, High R.5. The dies for this variety were produced in 1851, but no coins were struck at that time since the expected authority to produce smaller denominations did not occur until the subsequent year. According to Don Kagin, this variety was struck for only four days, between February 11 and 14 of 1852. The diagnostic die break bisects the reverse; the wear is slightly greater to the left of this feature. The eagle's wings are richly detailed on this reddish-gold and faintly granular piece. A few hairlines in the fields indicate a light cleaning at one time.
